Marni joined Outside GC in 2012 after more than twenty years practicing health care and hospital law. Marni’s current practice focuses on healthcare regulatory compliance, HIPAA and data privacy matters, as well as general contracts review, with a particular emphasis on drafting and negotiating business associate agreements. Marni frequently provides regulatory and HIPAA compliance guidance and training to Outside GC clients, many of which are start-up and emerging businesses developing mobile technology and software specifically targeted to the healthcare space. Marni’s clients at Outside GC currently include Amplicare, Carevive, Foresight Imaging, Florence Healthcare, Truth Initiative, UST Global, Kinspire and Iterative Scopes.
Marni began her career in 1992 as a health care and litigation associate at Choate, Hall & Stewart in Boston, MA. In 1997, Marni became General Counsel for Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA, serving as their sole legal officer from 1997-2009. In 2009, Marni was promoted to Deputy General Counsel for the Caritas Christi Health Care System (which became Steward Health Care LLC in 2011). In her capacity as sole legal officer for Good Samaritan, and then as Deputy General Counsel for Caritas/Steward, Marni was responsible for a wide range of issues including negotiation of professional service contracts and clinical affiliation agreements, corporate compliance and HIPAA privacy matters, review of medical office leases, state and federal regulatory issues, hospital policies and procedures, business and clinical ethics, accreditation support, insurance matters and medical staff and patient care-related issues. As General Counsel, she was solely responsible for managing the hospital’s contracts and its relationship with outside law firms. Marni also served as Privacy Officer, Interim Compliance Officer and Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Marni is a graduate of Tufts University (1988) and Northeastern University School of Law (1992).
Marni has been deeply involved in the leadership of several non-profit organizations, including Combined Jewish Philanthropies, as its past Chair of the Disabilities Services Committee, and Gateways: Access to Jewish Education as its past Chair of the Board. Marni also volunteers as a literacy tutor for elementary school students in underserved Boston communities. Marni is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and the American Health Lawyers Association.
Marni currently lives in Brookline, MA with her husband and founder of Outside GC Jon Levitt. In her spare time, Marni sings in a cabaret trio, loves to travel and spend time at their home on Cape Cod with Jon and their four adult children!
